Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions nurses ask us most.

How many CPD hours do nurses need in Australia?

The NMBA requires at least 20 hours of continuing professional development in each registration year (1 June to 31 May), relevant to your context of practice. See our CPD requirements guide.

When is nursing registration renewal due?

Registration renewal is due on 31 May each year. You can renew during the one-month late period with a late fee; after that your registration lapses. See the renewal checklist.

What is the recency of practice requirement?

Generally you need to have practised for at least 450 hours in the previous five years, or completed an approved re-entry program or qualification within that time. Check the NMBA standard for full details.

Can I count reading articles on this site as CPD?

Self-directed learning can count as CPD when it is relevant to your practice, you actively engage with it and you document what you learned and how it changes your practice. Record the time and a reflection in your CPD log. We do not issue certificates.

Is the CPD log really free? Where is my data stored?

Yes, it is free and needs no account. Entries are stored only in your own browser (localStorage) – nothing is sent to us. Export a CSV or print to PDF regularly as a backup.

Is Nurse Learning Hub affiliated with the NMBA or Ahpra?

No. Nurse Learning Hub is an independent educational resource. Always check requirements with the NMBA and Ahpra directly.

Can I use your articles for my assignments?

Use our guides to understand a topic, then cite the primary sources we link to (standards, guidelines and peer-reviewed literature) – that is what your markers will expect.

Do you offer accredited courses?

Not at present. The hub offers free study guides and tools. If you would like to see a particular topic or format, let us know.
